If You Love Me …

June 22nd, 2008 by nelgabe

By Felton Thompkins How many times have you heard this verse of Scripturequoted to you: If you love me, keep my commandments.John 14:15, and instead of it being an inspiration, it notonly made you cringe, but it also made you feel like you werecondemned of God, and condemned by the person that so graciously quoted it to you? Well, fret not! We have all been there, and we will probablyend up there again at some point, if we are not exposed tothe truth. What I would like to address in this article is our ability,or lack of ability, to experience the “true” love of God.This has been a stumbling block for men since thebeginning of the ages. I believe it even started with Adam in the Garden. Furthermore, let me express toyou that I don’t consider myself to have arrived, nor doI count myself to have a monopoly on the subject of the”love of God. My sincere desire is that we all can grow in the grace and love of our Heavenly Father. In February, 2006 I was watching, the Christian televisionchannel. It was the week of the Super Bowl, and they whereinterviewing a few of the players who would be playing inthe game that night. Although I can’t remember whichplayer said this or what team he was from, I do rememberthat the guy said this was one of his favorite verses. If you love me, keep my commandments. John 14:15 Wow! For the first time ever, I heard it right. The Lord communicated to me , that this verse was not saying , that if I keep His commandments, then He will love me. For so many years I had read and heard that verse from a “do-to-be” lovedperspective. Jesus said, If you love me, keep my commandments. Can yousense the passionate plea of our Lord as One talking to Hischildren, knowing that if we would “learn” to take heed ofHis principles and disciplines from a position of love, that then, and only then, can we experience the extraordinaryand abundant way of life and living! For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments:and His commandments are not grievous. (weighty, burdensome)John 5:3 First and foremost, we must understand that it is “only” the love and grace of God that allow us to keepHis commandments, meaning it’s the unconditional love ofGod, flowing from God to the believer. Cause me to hearthy loving kindness… Psa.143:8 The Psalmist expresses his desire to know the love of God, experientially and passionately, not just intellectually, and theologically.Unfortunately, the latter two are the only way most of us have experienced and will ever experience anything of God. We must learn how, and continue to know and receive the loveof God, not just from a theological or an intellectual position, but rather from a position of knowing His passion for the believer, and learning to share in that passion in a genuine love relationship with our Lord and Saviour. ———————————————————— It’s funny how at the time of our accepting the Lord Jesusas Saviour we experience, and accept, the unconditional loveof God. Yet, somewhere along the way we have this tendencyto forget that it is His gift to all who will believe. Well, until you hear from me again, let us all rememberthat it is by grace that we are saved, through faith andthat not of ourselves, it is the gift of God: not of works, lest any of us should boast. Probate Properties

June 19th, 2008 by nelgabe

By Josh Riverside In this article, well see as to which properties are probatable (known as probate properties) and which are not. For this we need to list down all the properties of the dead person [known also as `decedent or `deceased] and remove all non-probate assets from the list. The remainder will be probate assets. So the set of probate properties can be defined as non-probate properties subtracted from total properties. The most commonly considered non-probate assets are the Community Property Agreement, a special agreement according to which the decedents property is automatically transferred to the decedent’s surviving spouse; Living Trusts; Joint Tenancy Property; Joint Bank Accounts with Right of Survivorship; accounts which are transferred to the surviving joint tenants; Payable on Death bank accounts; securities, accounts which are Transferable on Death; annuities; Individual Retirement Accounts; Life Insurance policies/premiums; employee benefit plans; foreign property, defined as real estate or financial property that was invested outside the state jurisdiction; Social Security benefits up to a certain limit; IRS tax refunds; and U.S. Savings Bonds. Probate assets are the decedent’s assets held in his/her sole name without any nomination. These include bank accounts, financial securities, Individual Retirement Accounts, Life Insurance policies/premiums, employee benefit plans, foreign property, Social Security benefits, IRS tax refunds, and U.S. Savings Bonds. In general, probate assets include any document of ownership including real estate, financial or other tangible assets, such as a vehicle or vehicles, in which the decedent didnt nominate anyone. Probate properties are required by law to be inventoried and appraised. Probate provides detailed information on probate, how to avoid probate, probate court, probate law and more. The Wedding Invitations Reflects The First Impression About Your Wedding

June 7th, 2008 by nelgabe

By Alma Lazarevich Finally, the big day is getting closer. You are only a few months away from your wedding and every detail counts. Of course, you want a gorgeous bridal gown, the most beautiful flower arrangements, a simply exquisite cake and the list seems to be endless, but, have you ever thought that the first impression of a beautiful wedding will be reflected through your invitations? You obviously wish things would be simpler, you wish you could go back to those days when wedding announcements were just that, something pretty, nothing special, but the truth is, times have changed. Its unbelievable how many hundreds of styles and choices there are: from a simple cute plain card, to the most sophisticated embossed, big size invitation with double hard and soft embossed envelopes monogram seals covered with gold or silver leaf monogram seals over a sheet of thin wood painted with powder of mother pearl, surrounded by a string of pearls doubled panel cards with sheer satin windows all kinds of hand made papers all kinds of imported papers from Italy, Holland, France, India, Mexico, Philippines. And regarding accents, what about those beautiful satin or silk ribbons to enhance the beauty of an invitation? But, wait a minute. Did I say ribbons? Watch out bridesalways keep in mind that there are two persons involved in the wedding announcements, the bride and the groom. Ribbons are very romantic, but try to be conservative regarding bows; you dont want your invitation to look feminine with a bow that takes the focus away from the announcement. When you select ribbons, make sure that they will be very discreet and still will look pretty but not too feminine, think about the groom also and make sure that he also will feel proud rather than embarrassed of his wedding invitations. As I mentioned before, there are hundreds of styles to choose from, remember that you have a great advantage when you deal directly with a designer instead of ordering from a catalog, because the designer will have a lot of suggestions regarding what you both as a couple would like and will try to make something personalized, something very special for you both. My Wedding Album: 5 Tips for Choosing a Photographer that Suits Your Style and Budget

June 1st, 2008 by nelgabe

By Rory Brown With all the planning that goes into your wedding, documenting it correctly is one of the most important things that you will have to do in planning your wedding. You want to ensure that when looking back at your wedding album several years down the road it will capture the moment in all its splendid wonder of what the occasion truly was. That is why choosing the correct photographer that suits not just your budget but also your style is very important. 1. Choosing the Right Person Choosing the right photographer is almost like choosing the right partner, after all this is the person who will be capturing the most important day of your life through his or her lenses. It may surprise you, but there are couples who actually hire a photographer without first going through a portrait of his or her work first. Needless to say review the work done by the photographer. Ensure that you are meeting with the actual person who will be doing your wedding. Observe his or her style and determine if you like it, Ask questions about the photographs and discuss with the photographer ones you like and the ones you dont like. Your goal is to get a feel of who this person is and ensuring that you understand him or her and most importantly the photographer understands your needs. It is extremely important for your photographer to be professional in all respects. Does he or she dress professionally, personality wise it is good to have a photographer who is a people person and also punctual and knows his or her way to the venue and around the venue of the wedding. 2. Wedding Director or Wedding Photographer? It is always wise to listen to advice especially good advice. Most photographers have done several wedding and know a few dos and donts as far as wedding photography is concern. However bear in mind that not all professional photographers are professional wedding organizers. For example if your photographer makes a suggestion due to adverse lighting you would expect that they who has done several other weddings know what they are talking about. Listen to suggestions and always ask for your photographers opinion. Leave all the photo technicalities such as lighting, film and so forth to the professional. In the final analysis you will make the final decisions and nobody knows what you want more than you. 3. A Plan of Pictures After choosing the correct photographer through getting to know him or her and your photographer getting to know you, your next step is drawing out a plan of pictures. This is when you meet with your photographer to discuss when and where your pictures will be taken. Know what you want and how you want it. Although I will encourage you to be specific about what you want, do not lay down too many rules. Keep in mind that your photographer is an artist and needs creative freedom to bring out the best when capturing the occasion. 4. Time is Money In this case the saying, time is money could not be truer. It can be very difficult to determine a final price for your wedding pictures especially because there are so many variables that may affect the price including time. Many photographers are paid based on not just time, but overtime. Therefore bear in mind that the longer the wedding the more you might be paying for photography. Make a determination with your photographer the cost based on how long you expect your wedding to be. There is a wide pool of individual photographers and companies to choose from. There are many packages around. Spend your time to find the great deals as it will pay off handsomely. You would be surprise at the variations in price and packages in many locations. Although you should shop around for a reasonable price, never discount quality for mediocrity. Tip number one in choosing the right person should never be over looked in the final analysis. 5. Uncle Blakes Tapes We have all seen the not so great tapes of a family members wedding that was done by another relative or friend. There is a growing trend for couples to have their wedding video taped. Professionally of course. There is a growing list of professionals who will videotape your wedding for a reasonable price. Over the years the quality has improved dramatically, with digital picture and sound. These videos are then edited in a studio where graphics and other effects are added. In almost all cases the end product is produce on a DVD capturing all the special moments live and in color. Having your wedding videotaped in most cases will cost you much less compared to photography. You can also decide to have a mixture of both videotape and still photos. With the mixture of the two you can limit the length of time you will need the photographer who will only take the most essential moments and have the rest videotaped. Till Death do us Part In the end your goal is have a wedding album that captures the essence of the occasion in all its glory. These will be the final testament for all to see including your children and grandchildren. When to Hire a Pro

May 29th, 2008 by nelgabe

By Brandt Stohr If youre just beginning your small business marketing, the choice between paying to hire a professional to do your small business marketing is a hard one. You probably feel compelled to do everything yourself. Not only will that save you from paying someone elses fees, but youll also have more control. But to be successful in your small business marketing you have to be forward thinking. Doing your own small business marketing today may hurt you in the long run, even if hiring a professional today seems like a financial stretch. Heres why: 1. Doing your small business marketing yourself from your taxes to your graphic design may seem like its saving you money, but it may not be. Think about what you would be doing if you werent trying to figure out TurboTax or Microsoft Publisher. Would the alternative bring you in more money in the long run? If so, then by all means, hire a professional. 2. Think about your impression of other small business marketing materials. Youve probably seen your share of cookie-cutter websites, logos that were constructed in Paint, business cards that were printed out and cut at home. What did you think of those businesses? The adage may be that you shouldnt judge a book by its cover, but the fact is that we do. Your prospective customers will judge you by your small business marketing materials. So if you dont have the expertise to make your small business marketing materials professional, by all means hire someone who does. 3. Even if you do have the talent to create professional-looking small business marketing materials, trying to create your website on your own can be risky business. Unfortunately, the world of html, java script, and flash is a complicated one thats most often best navigated by professionals with experience (and computer science degrees!). Website creation packages like Publisher, DreamWeaver, and FrontPage may advertise that theyre easy to use, but unless youre very tech savvy, you may end up creating more problems (like a website thats not search engine friendly the small business marketers worst nightmare!) than solutions. Fortunately, in todays global world, you dont have to limit yourself to your own town or even country to find a professional to help you with your small business marketing. And while you may not want to hire a tax professional in India to prepare your taxes, there are a lot of service providers in other countries willing and able to do high-quality small business marketing work at a fraction of what youd pay a U.S. provider. That said, doing your own small business marketing yourself (some of it at least) is not always a bad idea. Creating your own contact lists, for example, is one small business marketing activity you can easily tackle on your own saving you hundreds or thousands of dollars over buying the list from a firm. Fortunately, the Internet offers a wide variety of good advice for do-it-yourself small business marketing Brandt Stohr, The Small Business Marketing Genius has brought startup one man operations to billion dollar corporations by using creative marketing techniques rather then investors and capital. El Shaddai

May 26th, 2008 by nelgabe

By Mark E. Baker Genesis 17:1: And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the Lord appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I am the Almighty God; walk before me, and be thou perfect. In the Old Testament God revealed Himself to the Hebrew people with different names. Each name revealed a different character or attribute of God.One of those names was El Shaddai - The All - Sufficient One or The God who is more Than enough. Throughout the Bible, God has revealed Himself to us as the God who is more than enough.God delivered the children of Israel from captivity in Egypt, He provided the means to cross the Red Sea and deliver them from Pharaohs army. (Ex. 14:1-15,21).He gave the children of Israel manna to eat in the wilderness. (Ex.16:1-36). He delivered the Children of Israel in battle. (Deut.2:20).Once He even stopped the sun in its path so that the Hebrew people could win in battle. (Joshua 10:13). Jesus, the Son of God, fed the 5,000. (John 6:9).Jesus raised the widows son from the dead. (Luke 7:11-7).Jesus healed the Centurions servant. (Matthew 8:5-13). The greatest way God proved He was more than enough was sending His son Jesus to die for us. (John 3:15-17). Time and again God has revealed Himself as more than enough! He is more than enough for you and for me!It doesnt matter what you are going through - God is more than enough - if you will trust completely in Him!Your life will be different, you can have peace, joy, security, health - your needs met - if only you will believe God, believe His Word and trust in Him - completely!God is the God of Now - not yesterday - not tomorrow, not the God of I will be but the Great I am! (Ex. 2:14). Psalms 91:14-16: Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore I will deliver him; I will set him on high, because he has known My name. He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble and honor him. With long life I will satisfy him, And show him My salvation. This Psalms tells us what God will do for us, now. Not what He did in the past for the people in the Old Testament, but for us, Now! In this Psalms God has promised us seven things, lets look at them and see how God is more than enough for your everyday life. 1. I will deliver him: God delivered the children of Israel out of Egypt and He will deliver you out of your Egypt, (tests, trials, tribulations) if you let Him! He is still the same God today as He was then. Acts 10:38. how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him. Jesus showed Himself to be more than enough, by healing and delivering those oppressed by the devil. God is the deliverer. Satan is the oppressor. 2. I will set him on high: When Jesus defeated Satan in Hell, He arose from the dead and ascended on High to be seated at the Right Hand of God. Colossians 2:15: Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it.Ephesians 2:6:and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, We sit in heavenly places with Christ Jesus above principalities and rulers of darkness, above Satan. He is the defeated foe! He has no power over you now - He is defeated! 3. I will answer him: God answers prayers - Always! If you pray according to his will, His Word. Jeremiah 33:3: Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.Isaiah 43:25-26: even I, am He who blots out your transgressions for My own sake; and I will not remember your sins. Put Me in remembrance; let us contend together; state your case, that you may be acquitted. Call on God, in Jesus name - state your case, your need and He will answer you. When you pray, remind God of His promises that apply to your need. Acts 16:26: And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them. And suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken: and immediately all the doors were opened, and every one’s bands were loosed. God answered Paul and Silass prayer at midnight and shook the foundations of their prison. Dont let the enemy keep you in bondage in a situation dont let things get so bleak that you seem to live in midnight darkness all the time. Call on the Father in prayer, state your case and He will answer you! God is the God who answers prayers - Always! 4. I will be with him in trouble: God does not say we will not have trouble, trials or problem. He does promise us, however, that He will be with us in all our trouble. John 10:10: The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly. Satan is here for one purpose and one purpose only, to steal, kill and destroy you and your faith. Psalms 34:19: Many are the afflictions of the righteous, But the Lord delivers him out of them all. Many are the afflictions, (tests, trials), of the righteous but God will deliver you from all of them, all the time! 5. Honor him: Psalms 24:3-4. Who may ascend into the hill of the Lord? Or who may stand in His holy place? He who has cleans hands and a pure heart, Who has not lifted up his soul to an idol, Nor sworn deceitfully. We should seek Gods honor, not mans. Everything we do should be to honor God not man. When we do this, God will see it, and reward it. Every thought, every deed, every action, every reaction should honor God! 6. With long life I will satisfy him: Gods Word tells us we can enjoy long life. When you are born again, we receive eternal life - not eternal death. We receive the life of God inside us, into our spirit. When we die, we will live eternally with Jesus, but that life of God within us, has defeated the enemy and physical and spiritual death. We can live longer healthier life, Gods Word shows us how. 2 Co. 4:16: Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day. 2 Co. 5:1: For we know that if our earthly house, this tent, is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.Ephesians 6:1-3: Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. Honor your father and mother, which is the first commandment with promise: that it may be well with you and you may live long on the earth. 1 Peter 3:10: For He who would love life and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips from speaking guile; Yes, Gods Word promises us long life! 7. And show him My salvation: God promised us salvation and restoration to Him.Salvation belongs to everyone. John 3:15-17: that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. God is not willing that any should perish, but that all should have eternal life.2 Peter 3:9: The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance. Salvation is for everyone. Yes, God is El Shaddai. He is The God who is more than enough!Meditate on these scriptures and let them dwell in you heart and mind, so that you can truly know, that God will always be more than enough for you, in any situation. Prayer of Sufficiency and Thanksgiving Father God, I thank you for your promises. I thank you, that you are indeed more than enough for me. That your Word promises that you will hear me if I call on you.I thank you, that you do answer my prayers, when I pray according to your Word.Thank you, Father for your gift of salvation, through Your son, Jesus who died for me.Thank you for being with me through all the trials and tests Satan has sent against me.I know, Father, that only good comes from you and that you will deliver me from trouble, just as you delivered Paul and Silas in their midnight hour.I Praise you, Jesus that Satan is a defeated foe and has no authority over me.Thank you, Father for the victory in all my situations. Thank you that I am the redeemed and Satan has no authority over me or my life. Lord, I give you all the praise and glory! In Jesus name, Amen. Do you know Jesus as your Lord and Savior? Do you want to be a joint heir with Christ? If so, I urge you to earnestly pray the following prayer. Dear Heavenly Father, I come to you in the name of Jesus. Your word says, and the one who comes to Me I will by no means cast out. (Jn.6:37), So I know You wont cast me out, but You take me in, And I thank you for it. You said in your Word, “whoever calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” (Ro. 10:13). I am calling on Your name, So I know You have saved me now, You also said, that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes to righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made to salvation. (Ro.10:9,10). I believe in my heart that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. I believe He was raised from the dead for my justification. And I confess Him now as my Lord, Because Your Word says, with the heart one believes to righteousness and I do believe with my heart, I have now become the righteousness of God in Christ. (2 Cor. 5:21), And I am saved! Thank You, Lord!I can now truthfully say, I see myself as a born again child of God!Glory to God!!!! Amen. I was raised Catholic and was born again at the age of 17. I received God’s call into ministry at the age of 19 and began to prepare for ministry. I graduated from Rhema Bible Training Center in 1979. The Lord has called me to teach. Make Wedding Party Favor Ideas Personal For A Gift Your Guests Will Cherish

May 18th, 2008 by nelgabe

By Neil Day They might fall on the bottom of the to-do list as a bride and groom get ready for the big day, but wedding party favor ideas really deserve a little personalized attention. No matter the chosen favors or the expense involved, they should reflect a little bit of the bride and groom’s personal thanks for those who turn out to witness the big event. With this in mind, however, wedding party favor ideas don’t have to break the bank. Some people can afford engraved silver candy dishes - some just cannot. Good party favors don’t have to cost a fortune to mean something to the people who receive them. For those looking at wedding party favor ideas, here are some that cover the bases in regard to cost. Remember, price doesn’t necessarily matter, planning and attention to detail do! * Photo postcards. If the wedding is a small one, with only close friends and family involved, it’s possible for the bride and groom to create specialized photo postcards for each of the guests. A photo montage of the bride and groom growing up or even ultra personalized cards for each individual guest with that person in shots with the bride or groom from the past will do. Put a photo of the bride and groom today in the center along with their names and the wedding date. These cards can get a little pricey for huge wedding parties, but for smaller ones, they’re not that expensive. This type of wedding party favor might take some time to create, but it can be a fun process if there are plenty of old photos lying around and a computer handy. * Gift baskets. Small gift baskets hand made by the bride, groom or friends and family also make great wedding party favor ideas. The baskets can be filled with candy, candles or other treats and sealed with ribbon that’s been printed with the wedding date and the bride and the groom’s names. * Personalized wine. There are lots of companies that make private label wines. Have the companies put the bride and the groom’s names on the bottles, along with the wedding date. This makes a classic and even relatively inexpensive wedding party favor for a small event. * Engraved glasses. Some wedding party favor ideas are a little more costly, but this is one that is almost guaranteed to be a hit. Rather than give the guests wine glasses from the club or restaurants stock, have the bride and groom’s names and the wedding date engraved on glasses for guests to take home. Wedding party favor ideas can take up an entire book. Just remember when choosing, a great idea doesn’t have to be as routine as printed matchbooks, nor does it have to be as expensive as gem-encrusted candlesticks. Think small, think personal and think fun and it’s likely any wedding party favor idea will be a big hit. Thunderstorms

May 9th, 2008 by nelgabe

By Julia Jones While some people find thunderstorms to be scary, they can also be viewed as being romantic. If you have having a thunderstorm in your area, without putting yourself in harm’s way, sit out on your porch if the storm is still off in the distance, or cuddled on the couch near a large window and just watch the lightening together. Pitch dark night, strong winds howling and no electricity but only lightening in between. To most it sounds scary and would always want to keep away from such situations. But it is really not that scary and in fact can be very romantic. It is how you look at it. If you want you can make a fearful thunderstorm a romantic one by enjoying the darkness together. Whenever there is a thunderstorm then do not cover the windows with curtains to just go off to sleep in your beds covering yourself and missing the beauty of the storm. If there is a thunderstorm in your area then sit out on your terrace to watch the beauty of the storm. Get cuddled together and sit in a cozy place near a large window and watch the lightening. But make sure that you are safe. It is something rare that people do. It is a unique way of enjoying the company of each other as well as the nature. There is an indescribable feeling that you experience while watching a thunderstorm and feel very close to each other. There is a feeling of insecurity when you face or even just have a look at a thunderstorm. You and your partner will feel very close to each other as you will know that you both are there to protect each other. It is really scary to see the big trees shaking with the wind. These huge trees seem to fall over you anytime, and the female partner might just hide her face in your arms showing that she has trust in you. The male partner holds you tightly so that you feel protected. These are unrealized and unexpressed feelings that are instant and portray the love and care between the partners. It is only after the thunderstorm gets over and you contemplate over it that you realize how you reacted for each other. You feel close to your partner on that realization. The lightening followed by that bloodcurdling sound adds all the excitement if you and your partner are together. Children Who Are Given an Advantage

May 3rd, 2008 by nelgabe

By Beverly Ballard As a mother of 2 - 7-year old Donovan and 22-year old Darren, I knew early on in their lives that I would not leave their education totally up to the schools and teachers. I decided that I would give these kids an edge in life, in their education. I’m just an ordinary, everyday, ‘run-of-the-mill’ mother who struggles like everyone else. I only have a high-school diploma and 2 years of college but I have great hopes and dreams for my 2 boys. This is what I did to give them “the edge”! I began reading to my sons while they were fresh out of the womb. I believe that reading to them often, singing to them and talking to them (not in baby language), truly gives them the edge that they will need in life. The experts say that a child’s mind developes and learns quickly and gets the bulk of knowledge between ages 0 - 3 years…I believe them! I knew that somewhere in the back of those tiny little heads, that information was being stored for later use. Now, at first, my mom thought that I was lunatic when she’d learned that my 18-month old not only knew his ABC’s but could count to 20. A little after he’d passed 3 1/2, he was counting well passed 100. He’d learned all of the planets, most of the presidents, all of the states (their location on an empty map) and most of their capitals, could spell the months and days of the week and so much more! By the time they began preschool, the could recognize and spell small 3 and 4 letter words. I would read to them everyday. The first thing I did was purchased a mat (from Wal-mart) with the ABC’s on them and the ABC’s would all correspond with names of animals that began with those letters. I also purchased flash cards (same place) that has everyday words on them. Once they began recognizing and spelling those everyday words, they began reading like little pros! It really wasn’t hard work at all! It pays off in HUGE dividends. Both my sons have been at THE top of their class - not just ‘one of the top’ in their class! And you know what…they love it! The 22-year old could write his name in cursive just after turning 4 years of age. They both are excellent in math, English and especially reading. My older son, even today, reads all kinds of books. Everywhere he goes, if there’s a magazine or literature around, he will pick it up to read. It makes your kids well-rounded. My 7 year old is an advid reader as well. He’s been tested at school and in the first grade, his reading was 3.8 meaning he reads on a third-grade level, 8 months into school. He’s now in 2nd grade and his reading average is 4.6 which means he reads on a 4th-grade level, 6 months into school. His overall reading grade for the year is 104.6%. His overall spelling grade is 110% and math is 99%. Great speller! He earns 100s 99% of the time! Thing is, your child can do it too! Don’t waste your money on the expensive stuff, just go to Wal-mart, K-mart or retailers such as these and purchase the flash cards for spelling, counting, multiplying, etc. The 7-year old has known the entire multiplications (1 - 12) since beginning school last year, so, just before he started 2nd grade! It’s not that he’s a genius, it’s just that I started small and kept teaching until I had no more to teach him for his age. I’ve even begun teaching him geometry - 6th grade level and he can actually work most of the problems that I give him. He has grasped the concept! Amazing that when you teach and teach them, the concepts of these classes become so easy for them to grasp! Most importantly, read to your child each and every day WITHOUT FAIL! And, when they began reading on their own, make them read at least 45 minutes a day. I’ve purchased the Scholastic dictionary, encyclopedia and many chapter books for him to read. He has to read on the weekend as well. He’s learned so many “fun facts” and he knows quite a bit about just about any subject you ask whether it’s about animals, people, places or things. He amazes me most times. My older son is the same. I remember when he first began kindergarten in Nashville, TN, the teacher asked me to come in so that she could talk to me. I couldn’t imagine what on earth she wanted because I knew that he couldn’t be misbehaving - he knows I don’t stand for it! Well, she said, ‘I have just one thing to say…I’m dumbfound’! She said that she’d asked the children to get the magazines she had on the bookshelf and to cut out pictures and make a collage. She wanted them to write a story based soley on the pictures they saw. Well, my son got a magazine “People” and took it up to her and actually started reading it - small words, big words and all! She was so stunned that she had to call me in to tell me. My 7-year old had a teacher who had the same reaction! He’d begun private school here in Memphis, TN when he was in what they call “Pre-K” (kindergarten). She told me one day, ‘Ms. Ballard, Donovan can read’. I said ‘uh-huh’. She said, ‘No, Ms. Ballard, I mean that he can REALLY read’! I said, ‘yeah, I know…I’m the one who taught him’. I then told her how he knows the names of the planets, presidents, states, capitals, months, days of the year, the Pledge of Allegiance, etc. She said ‘Well give you self a pat on the back…that is just awesome, fantastic’! As I mentioned before, it’s really not hard. Other tips that I recommend is to point, a lot, to objects when children first began “small talk”. They will pick up on lots of words this way. Their vocabulary will soar! My son and I would drive by signs on the way to school and to work and say and spell words on regular street signs or think of synonyms for words or homophones. One way that would get your child to view reading as fun is to get them a personalized books. These books have the child’s name written into the storyline. That child will not be able to put the book down. If they can’t read, I’ll bet that they’d TRY to read it and once they learn how to read that book, they will not put it down! I just wished that I’d known about these children’s personalized books when my sons were small and didn’t know how to read or were just beginning to read! I would’ve gotten a complete library of them! I just love teaching my kids new things and it’s a joy to see them really “get it”! I would love to help you help your child to read. It, to me, brings lots of satisfaction. Please email me at beverly_ballard@hotmail.com and I can tell you how to order these books. There are lots and lots of titles from which to choose and I’m sure that there’s a title to suit your needs. Keep up the work the work and the foundation that you may have set already and remember, the key is to R-E-A-D, R-E-A-D, R-E-A-D!!!! My name is Beverly Ballard and I am a single mother of 2 sons - a 7-year old and a 22-year old. I’m a working mother and I am the licensee of children’s personalized books. I was born and raised in Memphis, TN and moved from Nashville, TN when I divorced my first son’s father. I love seeing the joy of a child whose first learning to read! Reading makes children well-rounded in all subjects! Other subjects will just “fall in place” once they become advid readers. I’ve been told more times than not that I should have been a teacher. Although I love teaching my kids, I just didn’t think that “teaching” was my calling. I’ve offered help to my son’s mother-in-law who has a child who doesn’t read and he is age 7 just like my son. When she’s around, she gets a book and asks my 7-year old to read to her! It’s very heart-breaking because I know that this child is every bit as bright as Donovan. I’ve offered to tutor her child on Saturdays so that I could teach her to read and my only request was that the monther bring the child to me and that I would return her. “No takers Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Beverly_Ballard http://EzineArticles.com/?Children-Who-Are-Given-an-Advantage&id=160098 independent payday loan providers payday advance mount pleasant pa baton rouge refinance car loan bad credit paycheck dvd
